I know that the actress who played Dennis Waterman's daughter IS his real-life daughter, so that is not what my question is about.

In the storyline, DW's character had a DNA test done which proved that his real-life daughter's character wasn't his daughter (in the storyline!). However, later in the storyline he introduced said non-daughter as his eldest daughter - how come? why?

When he was talking to Amanda Redman's character, whose name I have completely forgotten, he said that he really thought that the young woman was going to be his real daughter and he was quite upset that she wasn't, he also said that she had no-one else in the world, so I assumed that he told her that he was her Dad to be kind and to let her have the "Dad" she wanted.

Hi horselady. I wasn't on about that bit. I was on about the bit later on when his first wife and her daughter came round and he introduced his real-life daughter as his eldest (storyline) daughter. This is confusing, isn't it?! :o)

Surely it was as horselady has said...

DW thought that the woman who claimed to be his daughter 'deserved' a dad as she had no one else. (Yes, i know it's a load of balls, but...) Therefore, it was the 'right' thing to do to introduce his 'new' daughter to the rest of his family. He obviously did not tell his non-daughter-who-thought-she-was-his-daughter that the test was negative.

I think we were supposed to think: 'Ah, innit nice.'

Thanks to both of you for yr answers.

do you mean that why was this new nonp-daughter character going to slot in as his eldest daughter when he already has a daughter by his fuirst wife? Is that not because he had a relationship with the non-daughter's mother before his ex wife, but maybe in looks and appearance the two actresses don't look as though his real life daughter is older than his real character dauighter? (!!!!!!) dizzy now. yes you are right, it is confusing, because if she isn't his real character daughter how does he know she would be older than his real character daughter.

No dot that wasn't what I was asking - stop confusing me even more :o)
lol ok :)

I understood it to be that she would have been his eldest daughter because she was born before he got married to his first wife.

(while he still had his own teeth - but that's another story!)

Question Author
Yes, but the DNA test proved she wasn't his daughter.
Don't worry ,its only pretend!
