an ex of mine had problems with his credit, but I remember, that he quite easily got an account with halifax.

It's a building society, not a bank, I know, but it might help.

Step account Nat West is also available to folk with iffy credit scores etc.

Hi spacestar108,

dont know if this will help you, but it seems that there are a couple of banks that will take you if you have not commited a fraudulant offence, and they also list the banks that wont take you with bankruptsy still ongoing.

I have an Abbey Basic Account. My wages are paid into it and I can set up Direct Debits and Standing Orders. There is no credit check with the account. All you get is a cashpoint card, no debit card or cheque book.

Hope this helps.

My Dad got an account with Intelligent Finance when he was bankrupt and was just provided with a Solo cash card. I believe they are online only.
Bank of Scotland and Barclays both provide these types of accounts as long as you have no history of fraud.
I have found it impossible to get an normal bank account just because I live abroad. I have a tax exempt account with B&B, and also a portfolio with NatWest but I want a normal checking account, I can use my well-respected sister's address, I have enough legal cash and just want to be able to get hold of bits of my pension without having first to authorise someone else to get it signing slip after slip.
