Does any one else feel sorry for the single scullers?
They look so lonely out there in their own boat. I imagine them sitting on their own at breakfast and dinner while the eights and fours and pairs are having a fine time.
Not all team rowers get on. Steve Redgrave and Andy Holmes won 3 Olympic medals together (2 gold and 1 bronze in the four and pair), but very famously had no time for each other outside of the boat.
Single person sports can be good. Not all are there for teamwork and companionship, and a good chat. Some like it to be them alone and their own effort against the rest. Concentrates the mind, gives one all the glory or failure; no having someone else to blame, or to share with.
