wooden floor

hi i want to sand my wooden floor in the bedroom can i use a hand sander, would that do the job, and then get some floor stainer from b&q

you could if you dont mind being on your hands and knees and being shaken all over the place lol....

I really recommend you go and hire a floor sander from HSS and an edger too. It takes a bit of strength but it's very quick. You must wear a mask though!!! promise ok? because it's blumin dusty......

thanks beryllium, if i do it i will wear a mask but hopefully my partner will be doing the sanding will tell him though.

We are very lucky that we have oak floors. But..... boy did he work hard lol.... we pulled up the carpets and discovered the lovely thick black tar that was used to edge the floors in those days.... lots of huffing and grumbles but he did a great job and we have a beautiful natural oak floor now with a light oak finish.

My old flat was pine floors and I chose an antique pine varnish. 5 coats of it no less!!! but it had the most stunning mirror finish to it.

and then?.... the dog made his own used look hehe....

I haven't a clue, when we moved in there they had been striped and painted like a clear blue, i hated that and so i carperted i have now ripped the carpet up wanting a oak colour effect. I hope it doesnt take 5 coats, ive got a 3 year old and prob wont get 1 good one.

sorry about late reply, how old is the house? because that usually gives you a clue :-)

and you can always use a quick drying varnish lol.... Ronseal does one that drys in 20 mins..... I would say at least 3 coats though. Because one coat wont do anything.

You could maybe oil it? it'll look good with a bit of care.....
