has anyone noticed that we seem to be getting some snippy answers all of a sudden? I asked an innocent question about too much tv coverage of the olympics, and had various negative answers, one of them suggesting I was missing soaps, cookery programmes etc. On the Contrary, I'm not a mad soap watcher,or cookery, and quite enjoy watching some of th Olympic events, and overjoyed when we win medals, all I meant was that one channel was enough, we can use the red button to watch what we want to anyway.I certainly didn't expect to be shot down in flames by some ABers

Mags, some comments on here are best ignored
It's far worse in News.
I don't remember any comments but i would agree that particularly sarcastic comments or rude ones are not wanted . Healthy debate is fine though and I think answers pointing out that there are lots of other channels available and most BBC1 programmes were still on were fair comments as were comments pointing out it's for 2 weeks every 4 years and it's a great chance to look at sports we don't often see. on TV
To be fair, if you publish your thoughts on a web-forum you've got to expect replies from people who disagree with you.
Jack, some of the disagreements are expressed in a manner that is far less than polite.
I agree.
But that's the nature of the beast on here....
Mags, there is always the " report" option.
I don't think the comments were far less than polite danny. i've just read through them and can't think which comments you mean.

It looks to me as if no-one suggested you were missing soaps, cookery programmes, Mags- the nearest I can see was ken's comment of " No, but i do think there is far too much time given to soaps, cookery programmes, reality tv, celebrity this and celebrity that, etc, etc, etc."
FF I was not referring to the above post, but a reference to the comments generally made

Few people with differing opinions to the OP here,
but offensive or reportable?

Thanks danny- in that case I agree with you.
I think the comments on Mags' Olympics post were fair and came nowhere near the unacceptable level of sniping on News in my opinion where I can't see how some posts are allowed to remain
Let it wash over you, Mags. It's only an internet forum. People try to be funny and smart and, often, it is just totally crass. Take no notice.
My impression is we've always had snippy answers and it's the same on other forums. I think it often comes from long-time users, familiarity breeds contempt and all that - plus the odd snippy answer is all one can get away with on here now.
I'll swap the snippy responses you get for mine any day!!
Everyone's a victim.

Don't think so - I'm not!
Hi Mags,

It's a bit annoying, but sometimes people are more invested in the thing you're criticising than you are - and can take it as something of a personal insult.

Obviously this isn't a particularly grown up response to a fairly gentle point like the one you're referring to.

The report option is quite good for letting us know. Even if we don't take action, we do read all threads which are reported - as such it can help us make choice in the future. Someone spoiling for a fight on your thread might receive less leniency when they kick off elsewhere.

All the best,

Ed.
Failing that, we can put arsenic in their brews.

;-)
Mags don't feel you gave to explain yourself. If people have a problem then it's their fault. I find some posters are always a little "off" and much as I would to slap their face s I remain calm!
