This fraud went on for over ten years. Not really sure why it was allowed to go on for so long.......I feel sorry for those kids.

Doctors actually performed surgery on both these kids, despite there being nothing wrong with them......its no wonder that a serious case review has been put in place.
Munchausen by proxy syndrome (MBPS) is thankfully rare and difficult to detect, as the abusers are very good at hiding their abuse and deceptions. It is a mental illness. I am not saying that this is what this woman had as there is a money element involved too, but it does appear to have played a role.
No mental illness here, unless committing fraud is now a mental illness.

I think the medical profession have some explaining to do too.
YMB - //No mental illness here, //

And you conclude this based on what exactly?
Could be Munchausen which is a mental illness but the fact that she lived with her partner while claiming to be single throws that out.

I think that there is evidence that some kind of mental illness may be involved.

But I am much more interested in why it took Doctors ten years to find out that there wasn't anything wrong with the kids. ten years seems an awfully long time to me.
more "experts" conned, For Funks Sake, why are they so gullible? Quite convenient that we are not allowed to know the identity of the parents.....mmmmm?
These cases are thankfully rare and understandably most medical professionals would trust at least at first that parent was not lying about a symptom.

Take stomach pain as one example, thhere is no definitive test to ascertain whether the pain is there or not, so next come the tests.

This Mother has behaved abominably whatever the causes.

Would naming her, and in that way the whole family serve society well or would people just pop round to their home with polite advice?
TTT

I'm with you there!

I suspect the same as you...heterosexuals!!!

That was what you were thinking, right?
// more "experts" conned, For Funks Sake, why are they so gullible?//

the difficulty for the baby doctors is ....
when they listen to the mum and all her problems ( well the kids problems ) in order to diagnose this condition they have to say/think

I am sorry mum I dont believe a word you are saying
so instead I am gonna order a total body x ray - ( or whatever ) to find out if and when you are lying .....

and baby doctors arent programmed to do this ( not surprisingly )

Quite convenient that we are not allowed to know the identity of the parents.....mmmmm?- nope ( again ) usual practice where children are involved in a criminal case ....
Quite - name the parents and you're naming the children, more or less.

Doctors aren't gullible but they don't assume a parent is lying.
// Doctors aren't gullible but they don't assume a parent is lying.//

luckily hospitals have 'named doctors' and named nurses who specialise in this sort of thing - thank god
Doctors can't take the risk. Could imagine what would happen if there was something wrong with them and the mother was dismissed as a fantasist?
