Volvo Xc60 In Warranty Has A Fault

Hi, all, quite a lot of detail here but in summary, we purchased a second hand Volvo XC60 (63 plate, D5, automatic drive, diesel, AWD not auto stop/start) from a Volvo dealer in October 2015.
In May 2016 it developed an intermittent fault and would not always start first time (continually turns over until it finally starts on say the 10th attempt); it has a warranty so was swiftly collected and taken to a Volvo garage who performed a software update and sent it back.
The fault remained and so was sent again to another Volvo garage (our preferred one a little further away) who could not diagnose the problem and it continued to start first time for them, so it was returned to us.
It then happened again, this time cutting out mid-drive twice (thankfully on a quiet residential street and when not going too fast on a minor road) and then failing to start again. It went to the preferred Volvo garage again, couldn't really replicate the issue but they replaced the fuel pump anyway and sent it back to us.
It has occurred again, failing to start when at our house, so is once more sent back to our preferred garage. Thus far it has been at the garage and is starting for them fine.
There is clearly a fault, it is less than three years old so in warranty, we have videos of it failing to start, but without being able to diagnose it at the garage (who are literally trying their best to try and find out what it is so cannot fault them), does anyone know where we stand, legally, with Volvo in terms of having this dud and actually unsafe car? I can't see the fault with it being diagnosed at this rate and we are continually getting nowhere with it - soon it will be out of warranty (two months left).
We are not angry about it, our Volvo garage are being really good and trying everything but to no avail and there is no cost for us at this stage apart from the inconvenience of having a different courtesy car each week. It would just be really useful to know where we stand in terms of Sale of Goods Act etc. as having read up, it seems there is some sort of protection for us (the car was around £26k).

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I would contact their UK Office with the matter, the garage that sold you the car should have sorted this problem out not another dealer, they are trying by what you say to sort out this issue, If you decide to contact Volvo UK I would ask tell them you are not pleased with this "unsafe car" the amount of times it's been in for the same fault & also the time you have left regards the Warrantee, do you have the last owner's contact details? if so, contact them & ask if they had the same issues with the car & what was done by Volvo, good Luck but don't back down.
Thank you for the answer. We have contacted Volvo UK, they are 'confident' the garage will be able to fix it as they always do. They have helpfully extended the warranty for this issue, so that is one less thing to worry about. But still, the garage are perplexed and have now got Volvo Technical involved, so fingers crossed. The solutions they have tried (fuel pump replacements, both of them) have not fixed it, nor has a full software update. It seems to definitely be a technical issue.
The problem we have with the original garage is that they are the other side of the country, so we can't just take it back to them. I wouldn't know how to find out who the original owner was before us (though we do know that the garage we purchased it from had known the car from new). Our current local garage contacted them to ask if there were any issues, they said no (obviously as they couldn't admit to a known fault and I'm sure they won't have sold it with that knowledge, surely!?). It is just a waiting game now to find out if the garage can suss it out...
