After a burglary couple weeks ago I have found that the leaves of 5 of my orchids have accidentally been sprayed by what the "fingerorint" man used on windows close to plants (which had all been knocked down by intruder), I have wiped them down but cannot seem to remove it completely. Will this damage them completely?

That depends on what is in the spray....

I have no idea, wish I did know , seems a bit trivial to phone police to ask what is in product used as I would not know most of chemicals that are in use today, and I assume the product would not be sold on the open market, BUT I could be wrong?
