Smoking In French Hotels

It may be useful for smokers to know that some hotels have bedrooms for smokers and are never advertised.They are called chambres fumeur

Yes there are sites that guide you to places where smoking is still allowed - one would presume they are on request only for the obvious reasons.

Still handy to know this legal practice is available to those who wish to pay for rooms.

Every hotel and B&B can offer dedicated smoking bedrooms if they want to - it is an exception to the law.

That's because being the 'exception' rather than the rule, one now has to ask for a Smoking Room rather than a Non-smoking Room. Smoking Rooms mean that you are permitted to smoke in them rather than obliged so if I didn't want a room which smells of stale smoke I would always ask for a room which had never been used (in recent years) as a Smoking Room.

The French are not exactly noted for their adherence to laws and regulations. I bet you could find plenty of cafés in Paris where you can smoke with impunity.

it always used to amuse me that until the "ban", french establishments were required to provide an "espace non fumeurs"; which was invariably a cupboard under the stairs with a chair in it.......
