I have a fear (although not a true phobia) of flies in my house. I can't stay in the same room as one and have to get my boyfriend to kill it (or usher it out the window - whichever is easier) before I can come in! It's silly and it's something I'm trying to overcome.
I don't like staircases, I have nightmares about them when I am stressed. I am not sure if this has a name! Also, my daughter is scared of clowns - anybody know the name for this?
SENSIBLE... clowns are horrible, terrifying, evil etc.
I can see that this line is going to go on and on ;-p
I saw the classic British horror fil 'Dead Of Night' when i was about nine, and I retain a morbid dislike of puppets and dummies to this day.
Coulrophobia, or fear of clowns is quite common. Many people have them and my first sight of one made me physically sick with fear.So much for the circus treat!

I also hate those moving babies (something otron?) or any dummy thingy that moves. Department stores will insist on putting these wretched objects in their windows.

i am scared of clowns. this possible stems from when i was 5 years old and my uncle took me to the circus and he was brutally hacked to death in front of me by the chief clown... i also hate puppets, especially ventriliquist dummies *shudder*
A qestion for del - how does this fear of infinity manifest itself? I am curious, given that infinity is a mathematical concept and by its nature can't be experienced, what it is that causes the fear -is it the thought of infinity?
It when he thinks about when the next time Rnagers will win a trophy...8>)
Strange as it may be, I have a very strong fear of vampires, so much so that i still sleep with my duvet covering my neck sould a vampire decide to pop in! (of course I do know that they are compltely fictional, but still, many phobias are completely irrational!) Has anyone ever heard of this before?
I've had a Thing under my bed for as long as I can remember. It's white, with long fingers, and is waiting to catch my ankles as I get into bed. Even now, as an otherwise sane, rational adult, I still dread having to get up in the night, and run back to bed. Made life a little difficult when my littl'un was tiny.

Very good SFT! We'll be back, mark my words. Anyway, it maifests itself in 2 ways, the thought of the universe being infinite scares me a lot. I need to know theres an end to something. Also, if you position 2 mirrors accordingly and you see your reflection a number of times gives me the fear! Another classic is the family watching TV which is showing the back of the same family watching TV, it goes on forever, its a horrible thing to think of and has caused me many a shudder. I think of these things and my calculator of a brain decides to divide everything by 0..........meltdown.
del, a fear of infinity often manifests itself in young children at the seaside where some find the ocean absolutely terrifying. I was told when my son was very small to take him to a swimming pool first. How do you cope at the beach?
I have a strong fear of having my hands, or even one hand, in my pockets when walking because i think i will fall over and smash my teeth out! I'm also scared of people touching my wrists and find it difficult to wear sweatbands! And more commonly im scared of dogs.
Put me into a room full of strangers, and you will see man turn mouse!
i'm scared sh*tless of frogs and toads. Tis bringing me out in a cold sweat just typing this. ewwwwwwwwww!
ooh it's called Ranidaphobia. never knew that before. At least it's not one of those really hard to pronounce ones :)

DEL,

Trust me that you are not alone with Apeirophobia. It started when I was a young child 4 or 5 yrs. Coudn't tell why I would have a strange dream then I would wake up horrified with anxiety that If I moved I would fall for infinity. Or to get the same distress I use to dream and see an infinitly large or infinitly small amount of something that I could not identify and be surounded by it, then wake up in sheer horror and be terrorized it was still around me for hours. I guess it was to much for my young mind to take in.

It went away for a while until I was 16 and had a fever. I woke up with the same kinda fear that I had at 5 and cringed about the same. Then it stopped happening to me until January of 2006. I had my first "panic attack" in a class I was attending for the military. Ever since then the horrible and nervous confusion of those dreams now affects me throughout the day. I imagine or dream about the size of the universe or about me trying to walk through a doorway just to find myself back trying to walk through it again. It continues like that for and infinite loop until i either have a panic attack or take sleeping pills and pass out. Only to be waken the next day still clouded minded and nervous about what happened. There are other instances that trigger my fear of infinty. i am now taking Paxil and it has relived some the occurences or atleast the severity of them.

If you want to talk about it more just email me.
