I should probably have looked here before posting in the other thread.
Anyway -- in the first place, did you try Buen's suggestion already, and has it had any effect?
Secondly, try the following. I am assuming that you are probably just downloading the latest version of Google Earth (I don't think the browser is an issue, but if you like you could try to force Chrome to open and work through there, and then try again separately in Firefox or another browser). In that case, there may be an issue that developed because of incompatiblity with the latest version of Google Earth. So try to get an older version -- the oldest available through the site is 6.2.
From the following link:
https://support.google.com/earth/answer/168344?hl=en
- click on "download a Google Earth Direct Installer" (NOT the Pro option below)
- click on "v6.2 for Windows"
- Run the application, following the usual rules for downloading and installing (ie hit Run/ Yes to permissions, and so on)
- When the installation has finished (should take around 2 minutes or so), try running the program.
- Let me know if it works, or if you get the same error message.
Note that if this version *does* work then it will be out-of-date and won't receive any further updates. On the other hand, if you have got it working you can then try repeating the steps above for the more modern version v7.1.5.1557 , and test that as well.
Let me know how this option goes. If it still isn't working please try Chris' suggestion (again).
