I too, never really understood what he was for does Peter Hitchins have a point?

mikey; // the result was so close in May 2010, that the LibsDems had to come in break the logjam.//
Another show of his lack of resolution, instead of undergoing that pantomime with the LibDems, many urged him to have the courage to go back to the country and seek a more positive mandate. The coalition was a constant embarrassment and disaster.
Similarly, when he sought special conditions from Brussels, if he had shown more resolve (think Maggie Thatcher) he might have got more of what he wanted.
His return to Westminster and pretence that he had really achieved something special, was absolutely pathetic.
Khandro...its my belief that Cameron had no option but to go into a coalition
with the LibDems in 2010. The LibDems, however, did have a choice but decided to sup with the Devil without using a long enough spoon, thus signing their death warrant for a generation or two at leadt.

The arithmetic show how parlous Cameron's position would have been if he had tried to go it alone. He may have had to call an election long before 2015 and it is by no means certain that if he done that, he would have won a clear majority.

The Tories were fed up with, and not used to being in the Opposition by the time 2010 came along. True, the coalition was hardly an unmitigated success, but what coalition ever is ? Even the wartime coalition resulted in a huge Labour landslide victory in 1945, throwing out Churchill, who most believe was a great war-time Leader.

Cameron's victory in 2015 is not wholly but mainly due to him winning in 2010.
I would argue that Cameron's victory in'15 was mainly due to his promise of an EU referendum, which came back to bite him on the bum.
Jack...I would agree that it was a factor.
My 'balanced view' comment was not about Peter Hitchens.

Not for the first time Mikey, a strong Labour man, has been prepared to make positive comment about a senior Conservative when derision would be the easier course.

It makes a refreshing change from the yah boo politics where everything your side does is perfect and the opposition are always useless idiots.
Hoppy....what I really fail to understand is how much people have taken against Cameron, especially here on AB, so soon after voting for him enthusiastically, so very recently.

I voted to REMAIN but lots of people that are now against him, voted to LEAVE....you would have thought they would be grateful.
I have to say though that I was never totally convinced by Dave and George. Too many U turns had to be made.

I have more confidence in Mrs May.
