Walking home with my now, old Lab, Toby, a couple with a Cocker Spaniel was coming towards us along a fairly narrow path. Toby went to say hello to the dog and the woman said, "she's on heat."

I laughed and said they might have another dog on their walk. Ha ha. I said to them, if they would just stop walking for a second, I would get hold of, Toby.

They didn't and slightly quickened their pace.

Neither Toby and I are as agile as we used to be and if, they had just stopped, I would have been able to get hold of Toby's collar with no problem. But no, they kept on walking.

Did they really think that my dog could mount and impregnate their dog, in the few seconds it would take me to get hold of him???

Grrrrr. Rant, over.

True, Balders. It wasn't a very undignified few seconds, I can tell you! Needlessly!
// Toby went to say hello to the dog//

is that a euphemism?

what part of keep your dog under control is so hard to understand?
Question Author
Lol, ael. He has a very good nose. :)

My dog is an 11 year old gentle dog, sinders. He wasn't, out, of control. He ambled up to the dog and,if they had stopped, it would have all passed, peacefully.
How long are dogs on heat for?
Question Author
Thee weeks??? I think. I've never owned a "female dog."
I did once but I can't remember. Was the other dog on a lead?
Question Author
Yes, she was. Hence nothing was going to happen, anyway with both sets of owners to hand.
Does Toby still have his dangly bits?

You are right that some people are difficult. If the girl-dog was mine I would be walking her away from other dogs.

Question Author
Yes he does, wolf.

By walking away from me his owner, who was within a hair's breadth of getting hold of my dog, simply exacerbated the situation.
When I had my dogs I found that there were many unreasonable people out there.

Is Toby your Avatar?
Question Author
Ha ha. No. That's, Jumbo, one of his predecessors. I got the pencil drawing done for my late husband's, 40th birthday present.
hi chrissa looking at it from the other POV, they had their *** who is in season on a lead. An entire, leadless male come over to her (and was obvs interested)
In that sitution i'd try to get away asap too.
Question Author
Nothing was ever going to happen, bednobs. We were all on a fairly narrow path and close to each other. All they had to do was, STOP, so I could get hold of Toby. Ridiculous!
Errr...who in their right mind takes a b**ch in heat for walk in a public place....do they want all he dogs in the neighbourhood on their doorstep ??

The 'girls' are on heat for three weeks btw and having bred dogs most of my life there are things you just don't do...

Chrissa you have my sympathy ...some people don't have the brains on a gnat

Mini rant over :)
