Just when you all thought i wouldn't be requesting help, up i come with Steven's Weekly Appeal for Guidance (SWAG).
As ever, most of the guidance i need is to explain WHY certain answers are correct. One is more basic.
First, "Stick with job after most of plan goes astray". I think the answer is "cement" which sort of fits with the "stick" bit. But the rest?
Next: "I leave contest after receiving non-consecutive notes, being uninformed."Ignorance"? . That fits the "being uninformed element, but i don't get the rest.
Thirdly, "Element knocked back and mostly damaged". I am pretty sure that the element is sulphur and i see that the "hur" bit is "mostly damaged" (hurt). But the rest again?
And finally, the one that i can't get an answer that makes sense. "Sea and trees represented in various bits of the picture. I have *e*h*r*e. The only word i can think of that fits is "Seahorse" but that can't be it,can it? For a start the word "sea" is in the clue so is hardly likely to be in the answer. But, in any case, it doesn't make sense.

Wow!!! You are all amazing. So generous with your support.
Sorry Mamyalynne. I thought that if i quoted the clue, I didn't need to give the clue number. I'll remember in future (and there certainly will be more times!)
And thanks to Scorpiojo for correcting my spelling of fuchsia which stopped me getting tesserae (not sure i'd have got it anyway but my query would have been different).
But to all six of you, many many thanks. I'll be able to concentrate better at Mass now that i don't have unresolved clues. SWMBO will be pleased!
