Wisdom Tooth

How long is the normal sick leave for the extraction of one wisdom tooth? A friend was told by an acquaintance who comes from another planet I think that she will require three months sick leave.

I got one yanked out at the dentist in my lunch hour. It hurt very much for a couple of days but I stayed at work.

Maybe it was a joke type reply - or she is 'odd'

I do not know. Mine never erupted and I kept all my wisdom in my head.

I'd have thought a couple of days more than sufficient. At worst surely it just needs a few painkillers, a cotton wool pad or similar, and a desire to get on with things ?

Back to work the next day, take a painkiller if needed.

I suppose it depends how they are extracted. If it's a hospital jobby then I'd guess it could be a week.

I had my bottom two out when I was 18. They had to be cut from the gum. I was off work 2 weeks.

I had one out in the chair, in the middle of exams so no let up for me, to be honest, after the initial pain from the infection I had, the antibiotics I was given were hard to cope with, I couldn't keep anything down with them.

I had the other three out under a general, so no work for that day or a couple after (though had to travel quite a way and stay over too) but recovered very quickly, was a straightforward extraction, no having to cut the gums etc...

I guess it depends on what your friend does as a job as well, a job speaking a lot it could be harder initially if still sore and swollen. Could be worth asking about restricted duties while recovering if that is possible.
