apparently many people are changing their deeds to TIC to prevent the NHS from sequestering the whole property if one partner goes into long term care. Is that the only benefit? I find it hard to believe they are taking such draconian action.

you can sever the jointure by a letter to the other joint holders

ps, the NHS never takes people's houses to pay for care (yet!). The NHS is free at the point of delivery
