Hi,

For approx the last 6 months my 3yr old son has been complaining that EVERYTHING is too loud!!...He is constantly walking around with his fingers in his ears (literally!)

He has never really had any other problems (2 ear infections, ever) and doesn't really suffer from many colds etc. He seems to hear perfectly well and his speech is fine so I don't think he has a hearing impairment as such and his previous hearing test was fine (age 1)..possibly oversensitive hearing!

Ive asked him if the noise gives him a fright or hurts his ears and it seems to be both but he seems to get quite distressed by it! Weve had to leave the cinema just after the film started as it was too loud, but he quite happily watched 2 police cars go by with sirens blaring!!

Has anyone else experienced this or could it be an attention seeking thing? Ive got an appointment booked with the Dr next week but dont really know how it will be received or if I should ask for a referral for a hearing test.Doc is usually good but our HV service is rubbish!!

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

A xxx

(AB Being weird again sorry)

My youngest son was like this, we couldn't go to the cinema and once took him to the circus, he was fine with the warm up clowns but once the orchestra struck up he was running down the aisle to get out! He would fire a toy gun with a finger in one ear and the other ear pressed against his shoulder! And bonfire night was just a nightmare! He's just turned 12 and is getting better, but we've always just accepted that he doesn't like loud noises.
This is a serious answer: Have you thought that maybe he is hearing properly and maybe you are not hearing as you should,
