Data Recovery From Corrupted Usb Stick

Would welcome some advice on data recovery from corrupted USB drive.
I tried a couple of data recovery programs and they did manage to find a lot of files which could be recovered.
However although showing the files, if you want to recover them you have to buy the programs which are very expensive indeed.
Can anyone recommend a similar program which is free or low-cost?

try Recuva, comes from the same people that do CCleaner (Pirisoft). I used it with some success after a recent crash.

well Recuva not really of any use as it can not scan corrupted hardware, needs file system that is not corrupt.

Best of luck getting stuff off of a corrupted flash drive. Unless it suddenly decides to be readable allowing an emergency back-up... well I've never recovered much (anything ?) from one.

Yeah, sadly looks like youre right -tried a number of recovery progs and despite their fancy claims, none of them worked.
The one that might perhaps have worked, wanted $90, but as the lost files were not that important, thought screw that.
Still at least during research learned something as to what might have caused corruption in the first place.
Apparently one should not just pull out USB sticks or SD cards, but dismount them properly by right clicking on drive letter and click "Eject"

Most of the time you can get away with it, but if it's being written to, maybe also if there is data it's not yet had saved, then you can get issues. There tends to be an icon bottom right that'll tell you if it's safe to remove, but it can be frustrating as it refuses if anything is even just looking at a file.
