But will people listen ? Willy and I meet a lovely girl bulldog called Pauline, once in a while. She is very friendly and we always enjoy our encounters.

She cost her owners £1500 about 3 years ago, and they have sent that much again, having her operated on because of breathing difficulties.

Such a shame.

If people stopped buying the dogs maybe the breeders will start selling healthier dogs.

It's very sad for the animals. A member of my extended family has one and I look after it occasionally. It does seem to have trouble breathing, but is very strong and loves to run.
I don't think they can give birth naturally, can they? I heard that because of the size and shape of the heads, they have to have C-sections.

The Kennel Club should hang it's head in shame over some of the 'standards' imposed on some breeds over the last few years, remember the GSD that could hardly walk?http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/12193472/Crufts-plunged-into-cruelty-row-over-deformed-German-Shepherd.html
This has been known for as long as I can remember so the chances are they won't listen.

Look at the German Shepherd that won crufts...

Its disgusting Jo, and its all the fault of the breeders....money-grabbing, cynical beggers, the lot of them !

Good point Wolfie.....after all, this business has been known about for years, as others has testified.
The German Shepherd in Baldric's link looks bad - I remember seeing it online at the time and being horrified. If it was to join the Police Force (a job that they are perfect for) all the criminals would laugh.

The Kennel Club rearing its ugly head again.
I met a very young overweight bulldog recently had such short legs, and was breathless and snorting ,Poor wee thing :-(
I know the GSD that was BOB at Crufts and she is a beautiful *** that is sound and a lovely example when you see her in a natural environment. Sadly the environment at Crufts is one she was not used to, and having been away from her owner for over an hour (they have to be taken to a collecting ring) she became very agitated and was scrabbling to get back to them. But she is definitely not a cripple and I wish people would not judge dogs unless they see them in the flesh. As for Bulldogs, French Bulldogs, Pugs - so many are imported from eastern europe illegally and sold for high amounts with no control over them if buyers took more care and only bought from reputable breeders and saw the parents - and walked away if they were not healthy then there would be far less problems.
