During a dinner party, the subject of why trolling started and how to stop it came up. My opinion has always been that the internet's anonymity has given power to sad individuals who have never had any influence in their lives. My solution is simple, let me know your opinion, make it illegal to use a pseudonym, every post must be in your real name. I am sure this would stop the haters who hide behind their cloak of invisibility.
I always thought 'trolling' wasn't just an open and shut case of someone simply mucking about but more to do with deliberately steering a contentious subject off track for their own egocentric ends. I think (true) 'trolling' can be a healthy way to upset the apple cart in a debate. Otherwise, it gets on my t1t.
Making anonymity illegal would be an infringement of civil liberties IMO.
