BT could stop all unsolicited calls from Overseas Call Centres, but, possible, is refraining from doing so until it removes all of its own Call Centres from India.

I sometimes enjoy going along with a Scam Caller. Recently, I had a call from 'Windows' to let me know that my Computer was at risk from attack by a sophisticated virus. In an assumed innocent voice I said which one, because there are at least ten in the house. The Asian sounding chap was a little taken aback and asked me to explain how come there were 10. I explained that it would be even more if Smart Phones were counted because I had four children( total make-believe) who each had a Desktop & a Laptop, and at least two of them had Smart Phones, apart from a PC and Laptop which I had. Furthermore, I explained that my eldest boy worked for Microsoft (another porkie) and had advised me to be very careful about Telephone Scams. Not surprisingly, the caller cut-off.

Hans.
After stringing one along to establish which of the numberous PCs, laptops, iPads etc in the house I finally got the scammer to confirm it was the computer upstairs in the study. I was in fits of laughter when he hung up!
I think my number has been marked as "rude, time wasting cowbag lives here". I had a spate of these a few weeks ago - 2 or 3 a day and now nothing. If I can get them to call me a b***h (or similar), I consider my work for the day is done.
After accidentally answering the phone to an Indian gent I just waffled on about having no computer or anything technical at all. "Madam" says he "I believe that you are lying to me" he actually sounded offended, but he slammed the phone down which was fine by me.

I was so close to getting conned by one of these guys a few years ago. It was first thing in the morning and I was still half asleep.

My biggest bug bear with these irritating calls is that they cross question me immediately when they ring my number! I pay the bill so why should I have to identify who I am when they ring me? i.e. 'are you the lady of the house?' - (no I'm a burglar and about to run off with the family jewels') - and why should I have to fork out for a call blocker when I pay BT a million pounds a month for my land line? Really - one of the great bug bears of today.
I recommend that you keep a referees whistle by the phone......if you say
"can you just hold on a minute while I get the dog out of the washing machine, or something similar" and give a good long, loud POOOP on the whistle, it does seem to concentrate their minds somewhat.
Another amusing way is to put the baby on the phone, if you have one of course !

Endless fun.

Or you could try to convert them, in the fashion of a JW....that has its fun moments as well !
I simply say "Putting you through to our technical department, please hold".................. click!
I've never had one of these calls. Maybe I'm an untouchable...
I'll call you later, but I warn you my attempt at accents is dreadful ;-)
I hve n old mobile handy for when these charmers ring ! i put them on 'hold' play candyman and usually by time song has finished they have gone!! One called me a *** once as i played along and when it came to giving him my 'details' name Mrs Mouse Address Cinderellas castle France i guess he thought hed got me at first ha ha ha ha
I am begging your pardon please ummmm, my name is Colin, how are you today?

As you have Not been contacted by my friend about the problem you have with your Computer, I have requested you to be given a telephone call bya Microsoft man who is able to clean your windows. When contacted please give the reference he will request and is AB CB 18.18
A few years ago I was laid up on the sofa with a bad leg and really got fed up of the phone ringing with telesales and computer people. They all seemed to be foreign so I pretended I couldn't understand one bloke? He hung up in the end RESULT! My sister who doesn't have a computer in the house was called a liar when she told one caller she didn't have one. She told him she thought he was very rude!
I had one ring me back and say " you are the rudest man I have ever met."

and I asked "Did you ring me or did I ring you ?" and hey we had round 2

after my hip replacement I basically sat in a chair for three weeks and one (Charleh) called everyday for 21 consecutive days ( not sat or sun)

[ the object of his dreams had unwisely given partial private information and I was keen to get Charleh to lose interest]
