Once he did, he became liable to censure by British Gymnastics, not because criticising or mocking Islam is illegal (it isn't) but because it's inconsistent with team spirit, when you may have Muslims in your team.
As for Mohammed Shafiq, chief executive of the Ramadan Foundation, saying ‘Our faith is not to be mocked, our faith is to be celebrated’ - he can say what he likes, it's a free country, and you might expect him to be disappointed with mockery and propose a more suitable (in his opinion) alternative. You don't have to take any notice of him though, if you don't want to, precisely because it is a free country!
