right, im being rash again, posting here first instead of doing a google search, i see now that tesco do a 500g brown basmalti rice.
Yes Tilda Brown Basmati in 250g, 500g & 1kg packs.
Tilda wholegrain basmati rice is lovely. That's the only one I ever use. It has a distinct, robust, nutty flavour and goes well with chilli con carne and stir fry. It needs thirty minutes to simmer.

Tesco will sell it.
Question Author
bought a kilo of tilda brown rice. can i mix it with some white to try make it taste a little better ? or better left alone and just cook brown rice ?

wholegrain
You would have to cook the rice at different times and then mix - if you want to mix it go ahead - personal choice.

Personally I think the brown rice tastes great on its on - full of a nutty taste.
DD, did you cook the wholegrain rice for the correct amount of time? It can be very unpleasantly 'starchy' if it is not thoroughly cooked.
......and it does need salt added half way through the cooking.

ok thanks, ill follow that advice
You are welcome, DD. Try it with come chilli. I wont go with thai green/red curry though, the rice has too strong a taste and would detract from the curry.
Sorry but brown rice went out in the seventies along with brown carpets, curtains, bathroom suites etc

really diddly, but its much healthier ? or is it.
if you want to make white rice a little different, put some turmeric in the water, It makes the rice yellow and gives it a lovely flavour. Turmeric is also very good for you.
Wholemeal bread is great but brown rice and wholewheat pasta I can definitely do without.
I much prefer wholemeal pasta and rice. Personal choice.
I wonder when the UK will catch up with the US and sell quick cook brown rice?
I am currently cooking wholemeal penne. Looking forward to it. :-)
Diddlydo, nothing in my house is brown, except my rice, bread and pasta!
Had wholemeal rice with chicken stir fry tonight. Lovely it was.
