Another of the answers was in the 18th but not in the 17th. We find Brewer annoying as it doesn't have a proper alphabetical index, and don't feel like buying yet another volume of it. There's a grumble for you - but it would surely be such a simple thing to engage somebody for a few weeks to compile an index that would triple the value of the work.
I was lucky enough to win the 19th edition of Brewers otherwise I would be stumped when Doc turns up with his obsession with it .It's not a book I would I would buy.I wonder if he gets a fee for plugging it :)
I also went through various headings until the penny dropped .An alphabetical index would be useful.
Good luck .

On holiday without my copy of Brewer, but I managed to get almost everything. I misled myself with 27D, which I originally had as MERLIN'S (there is one). This made 38A impossible. I have corrected this mistake and now have only 15A. No amount of searching has found it. Could someone give me a hint?
