Sean Keaveny of BBC6 Music in his morning show, plays an instrumental track of The O'Jays song "Backstabbers". Anyone out there in AB land know which version/track this is and by whom? I've emailed the show, but no answer yet, so I hope the ABers, of course, can help. Ta Muchly.

If you go to:

you can see the music played, but I can't see the tune you mention.
It may be taken from Angie Stone's Wish I Didn't Miss You, which samples the instrumental section of the song.

Failing that, there may well be a 12" version with an extended instrumental break in it.
In fact, even as I write ...

Many Thanks guys for such immediate response. I know what you mean BHG, but he uses it more as a backing to whatever he's talking about, but I'll have a look at that link Andy. Many Thanks again.
I suspect that you'll eventually get a response from the BBC. I emailed them about a track a few years ago and they took the trouble to reply pointing me to the track-listings, which I hadn't known existed.
It sounds like a jazz instrumental version of the song. Larry Carlton did that but I don`t think it`s him because his guitar is very distinctive. Similar though.

Many Thanks 237, the track sounded a bit disco funky, if that makes any sense, but I'll give Larry Carlton a listen and see what I hear ...or hear what I hear!
Try googling backstabbers by MFSB. It`s got the sax and the pipes. I think that might be it.

I'm sorry 237, it's not mfsb either and I also tried Larry Carlton - who sounds like Stanley Jordan - but it aint him either, I'll just have to wait and see if I get any answer from the Beeb or keep me lugs open for any clue on the actual show. A Big Ta for all your research though and to all ABers too.

If you're still following this thread or whatever it's called, my profound apologies to you 237sj. I heard the Backstabbers instrumental again and listened very hard and then went onto Google and did the MFSB youtube and heard it all the way through and from the bits heard on the programme, I think it's the MFSB who's playing it and looking on wiki, it seems like they were there too, so Very Many Thanks Indeed 237!...who can beat the ABers?...no-one!
