I'm not a medical person but I have had my nose cauterised - this was cos it kept bleeding - they just 'seered' a vein in my nostril with a hot prod - this makes a scab which then heals and stops the vein from bleeding. My friend had her tonsil cauterised - it kept filling up with pus. Gale - it sounds really awful but it was relatively pain free - its so quick - its a good way to stop something from 'erupting'

Have a look here for a full description but its basically a a surgical technique used to seal a 'wound' by burning/searing the damaged tissue. One of the main uses is to cauterize blood vessels in the nose to stop frequent nose bleeds but can be used for lots of other reasons too.

Most often when they cauterise something, they give a local anaesthetic to numb the area. I had this done, would you believe on a tiny wart (similiar to a skin tag), which I had in the most daft places my nose (just inside), looked like a itzy bitzy bogey - so it had to GO!! Didn't feel a thing, so if you have to have any treatment Gale, don't be put off.

thanks guys! i was really worried though because i have continuous nose bleeds and thats the treatmnet i was told about! =( i was a bit iffy at 1st but thanks for the "painless" reasurence!
