In the scheme of things both figures are probably a drop in the ocean for him. Does Private Eye say this is his only charitable gift or mention how much tax he pays (maybe none, maybe tens of millions- I have no idea). Does the subsidy go to him personally?

It's £300,000 more than I have given, I am ashamed to say, so I am not going to criticise him

Maybe the EU is a bit generous with its members money but even if the subsidy to him was stopped I'm not sure £600,000 p.a. would go far across the EU- works out less than 0.1 pence per person per year.
Maybe he should be forced to give more to Hati.
Maybe it would be better if he moved his operations out of the UK then it would be none of our business how much wealth he has.

Oh come on everyone. Surely you should know by now that the rich and especially the super rich know all the little wheezes and tricks to get and retain their money.

How do you think Trump has managed to pay no tax for ten years? The money they pay their accountants are but a drop in the ocean of how much they save and get to keep.

The surprising thing here is that he only gave £300,000.

I'd imagine the emir of Dubai probably has a say in where the taxes go anyway as he isn't Joe Bloggs of the emirates.
Without knowing the ins and outs of it, while £300,000 may not be much to him it will presumably make a difference to Haiti. And isn't that the point?
When I've contributed as much as a penny to the cause then I'll feel qualified to complain. But I suspect I won't .
