Dell Touchpad

I have just bought a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 series laptop. I generally prefer to use a mouse but have left it at a friend's house and the touchpad is driving me crazy!
Whenever I go near it, it seems to move stuff around and when playing games it is firing shots all over the place. I have tried adjusting the sensitivity in the only place I can find which is Dell's own touchpad setting but I can adjust the speed of the pointer, I have turned off 2 finger scrolling and have to press harder to make a move but it still seems to be doing things before my finger is properly touching it.
I am going to buy a spare mouse but this is a new problem to me and just wondering if anyone can help me?
