will I get a better result if I seer/seal , lightly flash fry the beef before adding it to a casserole ?

I think so, better flavour, also colour
I always do, I like the seared effect. However Jamie Oliver says he has tried both ways numerous times and it makes no difference to the end result.
My Mum used to make fantastic stews/casseroles and never seared the meat. I seared the meat but mine weren`t so good. I don`t think it makes much difference.
The only thing I 'sear' is mince and that's just to get the 10% fat out.

thanx a lot everyone, i'll give it a try and find out- hoping it mite stay a bit more moist.
I always do it karatant. Probably mostly from habit but I think I remember hearing that frying beef pieces before using in a stew/casserole seals in flavour.
