Morrisons Raises Marmite Price By 12.5%

But, as I understand it, Marmite is made in the UK, not "abroad". If that is the case, then why is the price going but by this huge amount ?

When in the UK I but mine at Iceland, have they increased the price?
Also though I have a tiny smidgeon every morning, the cost per day, or per week extra must be almost incalculable.

AOG didn't make the mistake, he was absolutely correct that Marmite is made at Burton because it uses a by product of the brewing process.

It was you who made the mistake, identifying that as bovil. Beer is not made from cows.

But I still contend that the finished stuff are similar. Anyway, life is too short to waste time on debating micro-points about supermarkets products.

Marmite is made entirely from ingredients sourced in the UK. Even the vegetable extract and celery extract it contains comes from the UK and the UK has ample suppliers of the compound vitamin preparation it contains. I have need to visit the marmite factory on a regular basis and I'm familiar with the manufacturing process.

Unilever failed to get Tesco to conform to their new prices and now they've turned their attention to Morrisons. I'm appalled that Morrisons have succumbed to the pressure and I for one, will be doimg my shopping elsewhere.

Unilever have a margin of profit which it wants to maintain. If its materials increase, then the cost of the product goes up. The alternative to that is to reduce investment and to cut employees.

Tesco and Unilever came to an accommodation, but we were not told what it was. I would be very surprised if the price of Marmite (and other products) does not increase at Tesco.
People are assuming the 12.5% rise at Morrisons is due entirely of Unilever profiteering. More likely Morrisons have added a price rise of their own, at the same time,
