Transferring Photos From Iphone To Laptop

No problems doing this previously but today the laptop refuses to recognise the phone!! Mr M managed to do his from his older iPhone but it refused to recognise mine, then when he reconnected his, that was no longer recognised either!! Help!!!

His OS is Windows 10. He usually transfers all photos from our phones each month and has never had a problem previously, neither has he had to go via ITunes, he usually just plugs the phones into the laptop and they pop up under 'devices' and bobs yer uncle! But not today!!! What's happened?
