You can try putting nice juicy cabbage leaves or dishes of beer out as well as they will take those in preference. Suggest a google search if you want to try beer tho as you have to use the right size dish or you trap other insects that aer beneficial.
If your pumpkin plants are still small, you can protect them by sawing off the bottom of a 5 litre plastic mineral water bottle and anchoring it with a long stick to act as a mini cloche. Once the plant gets bigger the snails may well go for easier pickings. If you haven't got any such a plastic bottles, the plastic bottle container at your local council recycling bin may be a good source of supply. This method is a good way of protecting your plants from cold temperatures when you first plant them outside.
