The Kindliness Of Neighbours

We were in a pickle this weekend with no electricity in the house at all. Our next door neighbour knocked on the door and offered us an extension lead, plugged into the socket in his garage, so that we could plug our freezer in to save the contents.

We have been using their electricity for three days and all the food in the garage freezer has been saved.

Wasn't that kind and considerate? Thank heavens for good neighbours.

It restores your faith in mankind doesn't it. We live in a small close and we all look after each other's houses when on holiday etc and whilst we don't live in one another's pocket we can all rely on each other in s crisis.

That's lovely of them tilly, any news from those charletons you have your insurance with?

Islay, we've had £1000 worth of work done today, according to the electrician, and Homeserve are footing the bill as we are covered for consumer unit replacement and fault finding.

I am still going to write and ask for compensation for having to eat out on three consecutive days because we couldn't cook anything. I'll let you know how I get on with that.

Yes, it is good to hear of people like that. We have lovely neighbours in our close, they would help anyone and we would help them.

What was nice is that we really only say hello and pass the time of day when we are coming and going.

They saw the candles in the window and guessed we'd had a power cut.

We are not a neighbourly close but I know that I could ask anyone of them for help if I was desperate.

I remember at school a teacher saying something about the risk of using next door neighbours power and something going wrong resulting in you getting two phases ? ....it's all a blur now.
Just that reading this bought it back to me.
Any electricians know why ?

This happened to me, about 20 years ago, and i was very grateful for my neighbours kindness, as it stopped the contents of my freezer going bad.

The old adage comes into play here methinks....I would give good neighbours, over family members, every time.

I'm going to be making a lot of soup today to use up all the defrosted vegetables from the kitchen freezer. It's going to be mishmash soup!

I was going to ask if the neighbours could help Tilly. I cooked a turkey for my neighbours last Christmas, their cooker had failed on Christmas morning.
Others did them roast spuds , veg and a Christmas pud. We made sure they had a full Christmas dinner.
