In tandem with that free time is a still-maturing mind which will fixate on the most pointless, ludicrous and generally facile subjects and expand them to galaxy-sized seriousness.
This is why students get themselves into these situations - because other students have too much time on their hands, and lack the maturity to separate what is actually important and relevant, and what is not.
That's how you come up with a rule to ban someone because someone 'might be offended' - but hasn't been so far.
When they join the real world that the rest of us live in, they simply won't have time for this sort of stupidity - but for now, self-indulgence and self- importance are the default positions.

If it was my daughter I would be very proud of her for achieving a place at University and showing the initiative and leadership qualities required for a vice-president role in the SA even though I wouldn't always agree with her political stance on issues such as this. And I would be pleased that she was thinking of issues of discrimination and considering whether people might be offended rather than someone who is consistently displaying hatred to certain cultures or uncaring/ignorant about such issues.
Hi douglas, why would i be talking about the reveller- i know nothing about him but guess the issue of colour hadn't entered his mind. I was contrasting this girl's well-intentioned but misguided actions/thoughts based on a caring attitude with those people in life and especially keyboard warriors) who constantly display hatred and bitterness against certain cultures/minority groups.
