Some viewers demanding Ed Balls quit, and others saying he is what Strictly is all about. For me, almost pro dancer Danny Mac (let alone experienced dancer Louise and possibly Ore though he denies it) is not what Strictly is about as he started great and will end great. Ed Balls however is on "a journey", yet his dancing will never compare to Mac's. Fault lies with people choosing the celebs for the show. Make them all non-dancers, I say

It still does really well in the ratings so maybe it has got the balance right- plenty of great dancers, an underdog (Ed Balls) who is making a real effort and is doing far better than underdogs from previous years, and plenty of eye candy for both sexes.

Have to agree with you vernonk. They should all start out on a level playing field but of course it won't because it's down to a personality driven show. IMO it's unfair to the contestants who are complete novices when competing against those who already have had training in dancing or are from that sort of entertainment background. As for those suggesting Ed Balls quits because he's not 'as good' as some of the others...damned nonsense, a public vote takes place and the result should be stuck with. Some people just don't accept a fair decision do they!

Some people seem to lose track of the fact that it is purely an entertainment show. It is not a professional dance competition but as FF says a good floorshow.

The show's remit is entirely entertainment.

The problem with giving the public a vote - and the parallel is Ali G over on X-Factor - is that the public is prone to be wilfully mischievous with its voting powers, which increases the profile of the shows, and vexes anyone with anything approaching a moral sense of fair play.

I think the job of choosing a selection of people who are not only nominally famous, but also have no dance skills would be pretty tricky, not to say unentertaining.

One Ed Balls, the same as one Ali G per serious makes for controversy - a bunch of them would make for boring television, which defeats the main remit of either snow.

If this was a genuine audition show, and the winner was going to go on to a professional career as a dancer, then the blockage that is Ed Balls would be an issue.

But since all 'celebrities' will return to their respective day jobs, it doesn't matter at all who wins.

chrissa1, absolutely not. I'd like Strictly to only have celebs who've not previously had dance training. I've no interest in the likes of Danny and Louise. It's an ego trip for them, not a journey
