Yuo're lucky,I can't remember the last time I saw a "proper" policeman doing a beat patrol.
All of the research shows that foot patrols on the beat are a waste of police resources. Perhaps someone had nicked his car? ;-)
You sure he wasn't one of the chocolate variety?!
There'll be talk if you see any more Daisy - is it a bit of a passion of yours?

So what do they actually do?
What do the British Police Force do?
There you go! You don't see one for years then two come along in a week!
(see your post of 6 days ago!)
I'm not sure what you are asking Daisy, do you live rurally or in a Town , crime free or near fast roads etc?

They have a multitude of tasks.
Perhaps there's a reason for the increased police presence in your area, Daisy.

Laptop was playing up so received no answer
Foot patrols have been abolished in most places. It just too expensive in terms of manpower when the force is being reduced. Most foot patrols are only for places where there is a chance of trouble like near a football match or large event. A Policeman can cover a far greater area in a car.
You can't hear much though in a police car!? At least on the beat you can hear windows being smashed and people shouting.
When I go to hospital now - I don't know the difference, between doctor, nurse, the guys in scrubs, eh - they all wear a tunic and pair of trousers. Takes the distinguishment from them I say. I loved the spotless white coat and skirt for the ladies and black tights and the really-ironed trousers by the men.
Each Hospital usually has a guide for patients in order they know who is who by their outfits/uniform. It's important you know who are speaking to whilst in there.
