Iphone 6S Battery Issue...

I've been searching online for an hour or so about issues with battery life.. I've had my phone for about a year now, and for the last 2 months I can't rely on my phone at all! Sometimes it's showing up to 70% battery life left, then it will just turn itself off, when I try to turn it back on again it shows me the screen with the empty battery and charging cable.. but then if I try to turn it on after a few minutes.. it comes on, loads the home screen shows I still have 70% battery.. but then turns itself off again! It doesn't matter how many times I do this, it doesn't rectify the problem until it's plugged in and charging again.. but if I only partly charge my phone.. it's 10x worse! I've seen comments about changing time zones, been through the troubleshooting.. but still nothing! What can I do? I'm a year into a 2 year contract and can't trust my phone to even turn on for me when the battery is nearly full! It's not insured but I think when I'm paying £50+ a month for a contract they should rectify a problem if it arises! As I can't use my contract if the device they provided is defective....?
