They always use a fishing rod but it Depends on what type of fishing they do..

For Coarse fishing they use weights, a float and maggots.

For Fly fishing A specially tailored "fly" made by winding bright coloured cotton around a hook to replicate a flying insect.

For Sea Fishing they have to hire a boat and strap themselves in to a chair situated at the rear (or the Stern) of the boat and use smaller fish as bait for big game fish.

They use there paws and mouth with extremly sharp eyesight and very sharp claws and teeth!!
From what i have seen in nature programmes the fish practically falls into the bears mouth due to the abundance. The bear makes futile swishing attempts and may be lucky in swiping one or impaling it in its claws. As there are thousands of fish swimming upstream it does get lucky. reduce the number and the bear will go hungry.

I go to Ontario a fair bit and the bears on our properties have a habit of stealing "Peanut butter and Jelly" sandwiches!

I know it sounds crazy but there are hundreds of lakes full of pickerel fish but if you turn up with a PBJ they come for miles.
