My whirlpool WGA 3494 washing machine will not now spin. It is eleven years old. Any ideas , guys, on whether to buy another or seek repair.
I am not sure if this is just the start of a series of problems. Do washing machines last long?
These days, most machines and appliances have obsolescence built into them - and anything beyond about five years is considered good value for a domestic appliance.
Given the increase in specs on modern machines, and the decrease in prices, I would upgrade to a modern machine.
Our last machine (AEG) was seventeen years old when we replaced it with a new Miele...never a moments trouble. The Miele has a ten-year all-inclusive warranty (yes, I know, the machine was pricey!) and they are said to engineer their machines for a twenty-year lifespan....borne out by Which? reports.
The moral is....buy German washers (that incudes Bosch) if you want performance AND longevity.
