Yes, of course Merkel is going to want to say and do the right things just before election time. It's all well and good quoting the figures of 'returns' but what has she got to say about the thousands who are lost without trace somewhere in the country thanks to her open-door policy?

The German Federal elections are not really that soon. They are 11 months away, end of October 2017.
Merkel is the Conservative candidate, and the only candidate who can beat her is the socialists.
