First I saw was coffee bar 1962, bf then spent loads playing Ricky Nelson

First i saw was in 1957.

they must've been here since mid 50s, first time i saw one was in local coffee bar, i was 13 or 14 years old, 1961/62, me and some mates would cycle there and buy a cup of tea for 3d and play the pin-ball machine, juke box was always playing, songs I remember were, 'Come Outside' - Mike Sarne and 'What a crazy World we're Living in' - Joe Brown.

Thanks to you all. No definitive answe. TNIS arose because I saw one on TV in drama based in the late 40's.

The term was coined in the US in 1940. I don't know how long it took them to reach Britain but just after the war sounds about right.
