Are "comming Up" The 2 Most Dreaded Words On Tv?

Every naffing program it seems must pepper itself with spoilers. What's wrong with letting the program unfold on it's own? Are they just deliberately trying annoy the viewer? What's behind this idiocy?

It infuriates me. As if giving us a sneak preview of what's "coming up" will make me stay watching!! If I didn't want to see the programme, I wouldn't have switched it on in the FIRST PLACE!!!!

Agree,Tora. You should have seen the 'Next Week' bit at the end of tonight's In Plain Sight'on ITV - it felt about 2 or 3 minutes long, and gave away most of what will happen!

Mostly on commercial channels and in programmes which attract those with the attention span of a goldfish who might forget what they were watching by the end of the ad break. Annoying ain't it.

Apart from aiming at the attention-deficient in the audience, I suppose it's also because they don't have enough content for the full hour or half hour, so they have to pad it out with inane drivel. "Here's what happened last week", "Here's what's coming up tonight", "Here's a summary of what you just watched", "Here's what's coming up after the break", "Before the break, we saw ...", "Here's what's coming up next week", and on it goes!

TV producers should be made to watch this Mitchell & Webb sketch over and over again until they get it into their heads that these "Coming up" and "Next time" sequences are extremely irritating for most viewers.

It's as bad as loud noise drowning out dialogue. A simple idea, if it's not in real life, don't put it on the programme.

That's wonderful SteveD. I record all those 'sort' of programmes - Police Interceptors, Can't pay etc, and fast forward the bits where they recap. It must save me about 15 minutes per programme. It's a cheap way of padding out the programme.

I saw the trailer for "In plain sight" so many times I hardly needed to watch the first episode, then they gave us the great long preview for next week, drives me loopy

What if you were watching a programme and was thinking of switching over to another channel .
There might be an item ( that you was not aware of ) on the current channel ' coming up ' that you might be interested in.
