Daisy, it's not a postal strike - Royal Mail will be working as usual. It's a strike only at 300 very large Post Offices.

Yes I was planning a train journey but have no way of getting out of the town
Southern only way of getting to Southampton where I would have to change for Bournemouth to my family

The rail strikes are only in one region and only on certain days.

The Post Office strikes only affect Crown post offices (which make up just 3% of the total) and hardly anyone will even notice. Delivery services aren't affected.

On serious note, the sooner they implement existing technology to make all trains driverless the better! Driverless trains will be here far before driverless cars. It is ONLY the unions that stand in the way.

I just want to get from one place to another
Record this year for a two hour journey has been over 5 hours
No joke when you have to stand most of the way, change platforms then are told twice to change again at a station you have not been to before

Looking back at your post on 6 July makes me believe that you're trying to get from Worthing to Bournemouth:

Weekday morning service out:
Worthing 0922, gets to Southampton Central at 1042 (Great Western)
Then 1045 (CrossCountry) or 1051 (South West) to Bournemouth, arriving 1113 or 1120

Weekday evening service out :
Worthing 1723, gets to Southampton Central at 1842 (Great Western)
Then 1844 (CrossCountry) or 1851 (SouthWest) to Bournemouth, arriving 1912 or 1920

Services on other days, and in return direction, upon request ;-)
