my partner had an affair which ended recently with him staying with me, and we are working things out, however the 'other woman' and her friends/family are now sending threatening and abusive text messages to me and my partner (from several different mobile numbers which i have made a good note of), i am not really worried or scared but would like to 'get my own back' (legally of course, and without resorting to the police) what suggestions do you have?

You need do nothing,you have what she wants,that is the biggest revenge you need,i've been there we had texts sent after the event for months and months until it got to the stage where my hubby vented all the hate on her and threatened the police being called if she didn't stop,she eventually realised she was wasting her time,and by then all it proved was that 'bunny boilers' were alive and well and living in need of psychiatric help,Do nothing,thats enough!!!

redcrx is right, change your numbers! the reason they are doing it is to get to you and remain in your minds, if they cant contact you, you take away all their effect!

Or, if you really want to, contact a solicitor re harassment charges, but you would have to pay through the nose for a official behave yourself letter!

Keep the texts,and anything else,also copy them down and put away safely,for later!

You could always make lots of 'business' cards I'm sure you know the kind I mean!), giving the various mobile numbers and post them in phone boxes etc

That should ensure they get some unwanted calls of their own....

just reply to each one with various emoticons :oP, :oD and various laughs such as hahahaha, tee hee, chortle, snigger etc the odd yawn, the odd *rolls eyes* and *rolls over and goes back to sleep* etc and nothing else

shoe them you find the whole thing amusing but rather tiresome

I love Joko's answer but that still gives them a reaction! you really are better off leaving it, revenge is a dish best served cold after all!

Keep the numbers and in six months time when its all died down get them out and post them online or in phone boxes and give them a taste of their own medicine! (but not just yet as they would know it was you and probably harrass you a bit more!)

i know what you mean caz, but i think these people will be sitting there feeling smug and powerful that duke is too scared to react.

their empty heads will swell and get carried away that they are striking the fear of god into the dukes heart.

they will be imagining the duke double locking her doors and windows and peering nervously through the curtains at every sound.

they would obviously rather get a "leave me alone or i'll call the police!!" response, and perhaps even want to get a few threats back, but thats the sort of thing understand and expect.

by laughing at them you are taking away their only power - fear.

if they think you are sitting around sniggering and showing all your mates down the pub they may realise how silly and ineffectual they are being.

it is really good to read your responses, i do think that i need to be patient with my revenge, but it will happen, believe me!!! if you know of any suitable web sites where i can post the numbers in the future let me know!! in the meantime, thankyou for taking an interest and i will bear your comments in mind!!

not sure what use posting their numbers will be - you are assuming that complete strangers will run up their phone bills sending abusive texts on your behalf - i doubt that. sorry
