Am I correct in thinking that stamps with 1st written on them do not expire.

I have some that are Gold and a few years old. I think the current 1st is red in colour. Can still I used the Gold ones?

Yes, they don't expire.

Andy....some SENSIBLE people buy them in advance to save money !

I bought about £60 in 2nd class stamps 2 years ago and I still have a few left....I use about 5-6 every week for crossword puzzles entries.

Shouldn't that be (smart).

What idiot pays more for postage than they actually need to?

I remember John Barrowman sayin he had ADHA as a child. Who'd have thought??....

5-6 stamps a week would add up to 250-300 per year. A second class stamp in 2012 cost 50p. Your £60 worth of stamps would have only bought you 120 stamps, enough for 6 months. Two years ago they were probably dearer.
Dodger....I may have been mistaken about exactly what I spent but stamps were most certainly not cheaper when I bought them, .....I can assure you of that !
You know what I mean Scorpio Jo, I haven't been well... Haha...
