Happy new year everyone.
Please guide me best you can. Tia. Xx

I have a member of my family in prison. She rings me and tells me she is depressed and is on antidepressants. She also mentioned someone hanging themselves and that she feels like ending it sometimes. This morning at 4.44am i woke up crying as in my nightmare this member of the family was hanging..the headlines read found hanged. I am so scared and stressed. I want to call the prison in the morning, who do i speak to? I need to tell them my concerns.

It was just a dream, caused by your understandable anxiety. You can't live in fear. Hope you find reassurance soon.
You certainly need to pass on your concerns and the staff can then keep her under regular watch.

I have phoned safer custody this morning. They will go and see her and have a chat. Hope this helps her to get some support. Thank you so much. It shows how helpful you people on here are, this was the fiest place i could think of in my despair this morning. I truly felt sick and very very down. Thnk you. Xxx
Leave it now for a day or two Phleb, then make a follow up call and ensure they have followed through.

Fingers crossed, it's a tough place for people to be.
nightmare triggered by the report last night of a transvestite / transgender committing suicide in prison

use the contacts given above

and that I think is all you can do - bad start tot he NY - sorry
My own nightmare on the same night was .....
my cancer had come back and was behaving like a scene out of alien

a real - thank god I have woken up from that one - moment....
Whilst depression causes higher risks it's worth reminding yourself that the nightmare is just a reflection of your own fears: you went to bed with this information regarding your relative on your mind. It doesn't mean anything untoward is going to occur, but it is still a positive step that her state of mind is now known and can be tackled.
I spent 6 weeks in a prison hospital wing after attempting suicide inside. The health care for people with depression, substance abuse problems and mental health issues was appalling. But this was over 20 years ago and things have improved since then. I found the prison chaplaincy very helpful at the time irrespective of the fact that I was an atheist.
As i say things have improved since then.
Yes the prison Chaplain is the place to go, get in touch with him/her and tell them your concerns. They help ALL prisoners not just those who 'believe' !!
