Tiling A Floor Estimate
3 Answers
I have a conservatory measuring approx. 12' 6" x 10' 4" I have already bought ceramic floor tiles 20" x 12" to replace the existing laminate floor. I have been given an estimate of £500 to do the work plus £100 for materials. The estimate does include taking up the laminate floor. I haven't been told how long the job will take. Does this figure seem reasonable?

Tiles of that size need a good, level surface or they will rock. He may have to coat the floor with floor leveller before he can begin tiling.
To remove the laminate, straighten the floor, and tile, may well take a couple of days. Don't forget that he'll have to return for a third day to grout.
Then there's the bead of sealant around the perimeter. Not essential, but good practice.
At around £200 per day for a good tiler, your figure may well be right. Perhaps you might consider taking up the laminate yourself. Then he can give you a precise quote.
