i personally find this a snails pace when the traffic is flowing and the road is wide open

Should the uk go down the Autobahn route and have speed limits removed on certain stretches of motorway?

or up the limit to 80/90mph?

I use the motorways quite a lot, and things somehow seem to settle best at about 75 - 80mph, with most disturbances caused by the 90mph and 55mph drivers! What scares me on a busy motorway is that you are surrounded by vehicles, some well maintained, some falling to bits or never serviced etc, some with drivers alert and well trained, some with drivers infirm or exhausted, some calm and patient, some psychotic or aggressive. some running hard against the clock or late for meetings, some drifting along looking at the scenery, etc. Lord, lets not allow this maelstrom to wind up to 100mph! Cars can be made which can safely travel in excess of 100, but I'm not convinced our brains can really adequately cope with land travel at this speed! You all take care!
When the first motorways were opened it was stated that bends had been introduced deliberately to prevent the monotony of straight roads causing boredom and drowsiness and that these bends had been designed to be taken at 75 mph. Which answers the original questionquite nicely, I believe?
