I have bought a faux bamboo coffee table with a plate glass top in a charity. shop. It is in good condition, but the colour is too 'bambooey'. Iimagine to stain it would need a lot of rubbing down and at 85 and 88 our rubbing-down days are long gone. an anyone recommend a way of darkening the wood colour? We are not chic (time was!!) and have some teak pieces and also light (not very light) oak.
Looking forward to some good ideas.
Wouldn't a further coat of a stained varnish not do the trick ?
Risky though if the surface didn't cover evenly, but I suspect that's a potential issue no matter what you try.
I'd agree with OG about a coloured stain. It's a slight risk though. Years of grease and grime may well prevent the stain from taking properly. I think I'd give it a shot though.
