Bees

This afternoon, I saw several bees outside the side of my house. On closer inspection, I noticed they were entering the building through a hole in the bricks- There are actually several holes visible & its a really old property.
Anyone help with ideas- I know I'll have to contact pest control or something- but it's probably going to be expensive, has anybody had a similar experience? Any help offered will be appreciated its worrying me.

The bees are not getting to the interior of the house, unless they are in the attic. S by merely sealing up the holes, I'll just have a hive of angry bees living in the wall. I've found some info on the 'net that says you have to get them AND the hive removed... thats quite a big job surely & expensive... probably...

Shouldn't be too expensive. Contact your council's pest control, as you said. They will advise you of the right course of action and will be able to put you in touch with experienced bee keepers - there are more of them around than you'd h

oh please dont exterminate them all they are doing is nesting they wont be any trouble and they are really good for nature bees are on the decline and we as a race will be in real trouble if the bees disappear so please just leave them bee

I dont want to exterminate them Chris, but apparently, living in the walls they can cause an untold amount of damage- especially if there are a large number of them. Also, with the wall they are in being in an open street, its possible (so I have read on the 'net) that when they have honey & young bees they will become protective of their hive & may swarm & sting. If they can be removed without extermination-thats what I'll have done.

Please check on the internet to see what bees you are dealing with. Some bees live in small 'family' groups of a dozen or so - some in pairs - so with the terrible decline in bee populations in recent years you won't be helping the situation. Last year about half a dozen bees took over an old birds nesting box next to my rhodedendron whilst it was in flower. Once the plant stopped flowering they simply moved on. Just remember not all bees live in hives/nest nor do they swarm.
